Inspiration from the past
Florence Nightingale
(May 1820 – August 1910)
In 1853, Florence Nightingale went to the Crimean War to nurse wounded soldiers, saving lives of many.
She stood out among many females and protested her rights as a female being the founder of modern nursing. Florence made hospitals cleaners training others on hygiene and helping the sick.
Most women during her time would have been made house wives or carrying out charity work. Her drive to change the future was far more important to Florence as she decided not to marry and make a difference to society instead. Her parents were not fond of her decision as they were afraid of her health due to the poor hygiene, but Florence insisted and made a change.
As the war hospitals became full of injured soldiers with not enough nurses, Florence knew this was her chance to do something important.
Florence Nightingale was known as the heroine by preventing deaths due to her improving the hygiene and working endless hours to care for the injured.
This drive, motivation and success that Florence Nightingale showed is inspirational and creates a positive message to follow your dreams and you can achieve amazing things!
